You will be surprised to know that Taj Mahal is built up by more than 22,000 labourers in 17 years and the building materials are brought to the site by almost 1000 elephants at that time!

Don’t get surprised to know that Taj Mahal has no artificial lighting in it! Any guesses why? Yes, if you pointed out the reason of white marble then you are right. I am also surprised to know this.
Taj Mahal is specifically appreciated about the white dome at the peak of the mausoleum. Many of the precious stones were ripped off from the walls of the mausoleum by the Britishers ruling at that time.
Agra Fort in Agra, India
Agra Fort is a massive red sandstone structure built by the first Mughal Emperor Akbar in 1565 on the banks of holy river Yamuna in the Agra city of India.
You will be surprised to know that Agra Fort was primarily a military structure but later transformed by his grandson Shahjahan in to the palace by changing most of the red Sandstone with the white marble.
Agra Fort has far more magnificent piece of architecture than Taj Mahal but somehow it was not appreciated that way. Agra Fort is built by 1,444,000 workers who took 8 Years to build up the massive architecture.
Agra Fort served as a foundation model for Red fort in Delhi.
Later on Shahjahan was imprisoned by his own son Aurangzeb, in the Agra Fort from where Shah Jahan used to watch Taj Mahal.
There was a special place for the Hindu temple in the Agra Fort as Akbar’s wife Rani Jodhabai belonged to Hindu religion. So, at that time, all the religions are treated equally.
There were lots of precious stones and gems embedded in the walls of mausoleum but later looted by the attackers. Otherwise, Agra Fort might be seen far better than the Taj Mahal today.
Fatehpur Sikri, Agra, India
After visiting Agra Fort, you can visit Fatehpur Sikri. Fatehpur Sikri is a historical city located at a distance of 40 km away from the Agra city in Uttar Pradesh state of India.
Fatehpur Sikri was initially known as Fatehabad, was built by Emperor Akbar when he moved his capital from Agra to Sikri ridge and which served as a capital from 1571 to 1585 for 15 years.
Fatehpur Sikri is now a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is a fine art work of Mughal times.
The famous Fatehpur Sikri grand architecture includes Buland Darwaza, Navratanas, Jama Masjid, Diwan-i-Aam, Diwan-i-Khas, Tomb of Salim Chishti and the house of Akbar’s minister, are of high interest for the visitors.
So, if you have been in Delhi then the visit to Agra is the must to do in your bucket list. Because Agra has much more spectacular artwork of architectures to visit than just Taj Mahal.
